Mango lassi has always been one of my favorite drinks. Typically, this sweet, dessert-like beverage is loaded with refined sugar, therefore I didn't indulge too often. As I'm struck by lassi cravings on a regular basis, I looked for ways to create this yummy drink with a healthy twist. So here it is, the recipe that won me over: Naturally sweetened with mangoes and orange juice, and featuring turmeric as an anti-inflammatory ingredient (and of course I love that turmeric deepens the beautiful orange color of the mango lassi).
Commonly, lassi is served chilled as refreshment on a hot day, but thanks to the immune-boosting benefits of turmeric I like drinking this lassi on colder days as well.
One more thing: The recipe lists pepper as the last ingredient. I added pepper because it is said to enhance the bio-availability of turmeric, and I find that just a pinch of pepper doesn't change the taste at all. Nevertheless, you can leave it out if you think this is too crazy an ingredient for a sweet, yummy lassi.
