This vegan chives cream cheese is creamy, fresh, and ready in minutes. Flaxseed oil adds a unique nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with the sharp bite of chives. Spread it on bread, bagels, or serve it as a dip with crackers and veggies.

This chives cream cheese is the kind of dip you plan to "just taste"… and then somehow finish half the bowl. (Speaking from experience.)
It's creamy, savory, and wonderfully simple with just three ingredients: vegan cream cheese, chives, and flaxseed oil. When a recipe uses so few ingredients, each one really matters.
The cream cheese base is flexible. You can use store-bought vegan cream cheese, homemade, or even crème fraîche, a thick Greek-style plant-based yogurt, or something more German like vegan quark.
The one ingredient I wouldn't skip is flaxseed oil.
Let's talk about why it makes such a difference.
Why Flax Oil Makes a Difference
Flaxseed oil (also called flax oil) has a mild, nutty flavor that works beautifully in cold dishes like dips and spreads. But it's not just nutty. It has something very particular about it, almost umami-rich, quite distinct, and not really comparable to any other oil.
That unique depth is exactly what makes this chives cream cheese dip so good.
Therefore, flax oil is non-negotiable here. And since it's so, so good, I hope you'll treat yourself to a little bottle of organic flax oil. And when I say little, I mean it. Flax oil goes rancid easily, so I prefer buying smaller bottles and, once opened, keeping them in the fridge.
Good to know: use flax oil cold, no heating allowed. Think salads, dips, spreads, or drizzled over a slice of wholemeal bread with a sprinkle of sea salt.
