Seriously, I'm typing this with a glass in hand, and it's so good. Wish I could beam it straight through your monitor (wouldn't that be something? Maybe in the future, haha!).
Okay, back to reality (which is pretty darn amazing when it involves watermelon). This year's melons have been OFF. THE. CHARTS. Sweet, juicy, begging for you to sink your teeth into their crisp flesh. And to be turned into pretty-in-pink drinks that are so unbelievably good the summer gods themselves must have dreamed them up.
Like this watermelon smoothie! Watermelon's sweetness meets the refreshing, tingly coolness of peppermint – it can't get sipping yummier than that! Honestly, watermelon and mint are a match made in flavor heaven (speaking of mighty gourmet gods, and all).
Now, throw in a squeeze of lime (or lemon), and you have The. Best. Instant. Refreshment. in a cup. Three ingredients, people, THREE! The flavor is just beyond incredible.
If you're feeling a little more "milkshake, please," toss some bananas in there! It takes this smoothie from "refreshing pick-me-up" to a sweet "mini-meal" situation.
Watermelon Margarita or Watermelon Cocktail, Anyone?
Yep, you heard that right. It's cocktail time. Or margarita time. Whichever you fancy. Even if you're skipping the alcohol, you can still enjoy a delicious watermelon margarita/cocktail (thanks to awesome alcohol-free alternatives that actually taste great!).
Watermelon Cocktail
Accidentally (oops!), I discovered that the creamier version with bananas makes an excellent cocktail base. When mixed with white rum (including non-alcoholic varieties), the smoothie transforms into a rich, wickedly delicious, and ultra-sweet cocktail. You know, the kind of drink that makes you dream of tropical islands in the sun, swaying palms, and lazy afternoons in hammocks.
Watermelon Margarita
Skip the bananas in the smoothie and say hola to tequila (or your fave alcohol-free tequila) for a delish watermelon margarita! A splash of triple sec (orange liqueur) or some orange zest is totally up for grabs!
The original smoothie has a hint of peppermint, but mint is not a traditional margarita ingredient. Feel free to keep it in for a fun, refreshing surprise, or ditch it for a more classic marg experience.

- Generous handful of peppermint leaves 2-3 big sprigs of peppermint

Watermelon Smoothie FAQs
Absolutely! Frozen is totally okay for both the watermelon and bananas. Just be aware that using both frozen might create a more smoothie-bowl-ish situation (think thick and frosty!). If you're craving a thinner, more sippable consistency, maybe stick with just one frozen ingredient.
Sure, skip it for a more pure watermelon vibe.
You bet! Strawberries, pineapple, or a handful of fresh berries would be delicious additions.
