  • Bonus: Dropping in January 2025

Earlier today, I rearranged my bookshelves to create more room for cookbooks. Ahhh, the joy cookbooks bring me! So, I placed them in the main spot they deserve. Also, I needed space for my lovely new cookbooks ‒ 2024 has gifted us a wonderful selection of vegan cookbooks.

And isn't the year's end just the best moment to review all the new books?

Publishers understand us bookish humans. They know we’re cozying up at home with our favorite people, pets, blankets, and mugs (order subject to change) ‒ ready to dive into a towering pile of beautiful reads. It’s the perfect season for (cook)books and hot chocolate (or your warm beverage of choice).

Of course, there’s probably a little more strategic thinking behind those fall (September-November) release dates. Cookbooks do make wonderful holiday gifts, after all. I’ll admit, though, I rarely wait for a special occasion to bring a new one home. But birthdays, Christmas, and New Year’s have a wonderful way of turning wishes into books.

Now, onto my list of the 11 hottest vegan cookbooks of 2024. I’m sharing these with you because I truly believe they deserve a spot on everyone’s cookbook wishlist. There’s something for everyone here—a beautiful mix of flavors and ideas, from healthy to comforting, Japanese to Dominican, beginner-friendly to delightfully artistic. Each one's a celebration of plant-based cooking. Each one's worthy of enriching your cookbook collection.

And because I couldn’t help myself, there’s a little goodie waiting for you at the end: 5 exciting vegan cookbooks dropping in January 2025.

Fav New Vegan Cookbooks of 2024

1. Elegant & Artsy

Kicking off the list is the visually stunning The Artful Way to Plant-Based Cooking by Chloé Crane-Leroux and Trudy Crane (mother and daughter). True to their motto, 'Romanticize your life,' this cookbook is a visual feast. Dreamy, poetic photography and wholesome dishes inspired by their travels through Europe—especially Spain, France, and Italy—await you.

Everything's big about Nisha Vora's Big Vegan Flavor. The size: over 600 pages! The number of recipes: 150! And, of course, the flavors: big and bold. This is a book for anyone serious about plant-based cooking (or any cooking, really) who wants their food to taste amazing. The author teaches techniques to maximize, layer, and draw out flavor from any dish. Definitely one to turn to for years to come.

Ella Mills' 7th cookbook Deliciously Ella Healthy Made Simple makes healthy eating a breeze. The subtitle states: 'All of the goodness. None of the fuss.' And that's what we get: minimal ingredients, short prep times, and vibrant meals as a result. This cookbook is perfect for your busy weeknights or if you're looking to simplify your cooking routine.

Since I own a few of Ella Mills' cookbooks, I can say they just keep getting better and better.

4. Authentic Vegan Japanese Food

After spending three weeks in Japan this year, I’ve developed a soft spot for Japanese food. Searching for authentic Japanese recipes—but vegan—I was thrilled to discover Julia Boucachard's Vegan Japan. I’m starting small with a vegan dashi and working my way up to gyoza and karaage.

5. Classic Mexican Dishes

Alexa Soto celebrates her Mexican roots in Plantas, sharing traditional Mexican dishes alongside beautiful family stories. You’ll find all your favorites like tortillas, enchiladas, and tacos—but also some lesser-known (and deserving-to-be-known) recipes. I’m especially intrigued by the extensive beverage section, which includes cocktails, mocktails, and all kinds of coffee drinks. Yum.

Like Plantas, Peaceful Kitchen by Catherine Perez highlights Mexican dishes but also features Dominican recipes. As a registered dietitian, Catherine Perez puts a wholesome, nourishing spin on traditional dishes and she invites readers to cultivate a mindful and joyful cooking experience.

7. Mastering Everything Vegan

Joe Yonan's Mastering the Art of Plant-Based Cooking is a true masterpiece of a cookbook! With a whopping 300—THREE HUNDRED!—recipes and nearly 500 pages, it promises to meet all your vegan cooking wishes. Plus, you're free to unleash your inner culinary geek and dive into the how's and why's of plant-based cooking chemistry.

Miyoko Schinner puts it perfectly:
“Wowzers. Forget searching on the internet—whatever recipe you’re looking for—or don’t even know you’re looking for—you can find a better version in Joe Yonan’s tome, Mastering the Art of Plant-Based Cooking. No corner of the world was left unexplored in this multicultural celebration of just great food. 8. With Love From Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson might be best known for her Baywatch role, but at heart, she’s a true activist. I Love You: Recipes From the Heart, her first cookbook, is more than just a collection of family-tested recipes—it’s a love letter to the earth, animals, and life itself. The book is enriched with beautiful quotes, heartfelt family stories, and intimate photos by Danish photographer Ditte Isager.

Fair warning: after reading this book, you might find yourself dreaming of a garden of your own.

9. French Home Cooking (French Only)

This is comforting French cuisine, just like it’s straight from a grandmother's kitchen—but turned vegan by Aude Richard in Comme chez Mamie (currently available only in French). You’ll find all the traditional French dishes we know and love (quiche Lorraine, clafoutis, flan Parisien), plus many more that might be new to you. I can’t wait to try vol-au-vent, potée au chou, and îles flottantes. With its pictures in rich, saturated brown tones, this cookbook has a beautifully nostalgic feel.

10. Eastern European Soulfood (German Only)

Being born and raised in Romania, of course, I had to have this cookbook. I can attest to the authenticity of the Romanian recipes in Osteuropa vegan by Stefan Pop and Angelika Grossmann (like zacuscă or conopidă cu pesmet). The book also features recipes from Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, and the Balkans. It’s filled with vibrant pictures that exude rustic charm. Unfortunately, it’s currently only available in German.

11. Korean Cloisture Kitchen (German only)

If you’ve seen the Buddhist nun Jeong Kwan Snim in the Netflix series Chef's Table, you were likely as impressed as everyone else by her culinary tradition. Her deep connection to food, the care she puts into every detail, and the time she invests to create dishes that nourish the body, soul, and eyes are truly inspiring.

The new cookbook is written by journalist Hoo Nam Seelmann. After spending significant time at the temple, Seelmann and the photographer Véronique Hoegger offer an intimate glimpse into Jeong Kwan Snim's life and her cooking tradition.

To date, the cookbook is only available in German; you can find it on Amazon Germany and Amazon UK.

I always keep a close eye on new vegan cookbook releases, and these five gems coming out in January 2025 are absolutely gorgeous—and already on my wishlist. You can even pre-order them now. Isn't this the perfect excuse to treat yourself (or your fav foodie) to something to look forward to?

British Comfort

I’ve been following Elly Smart on Instagram (@ellysplate) for a while—and wow, does she share drool-worthy vegan creations. I’m so excited she’s revealing her culinary secrets in Elly's Plate, with a focus on British comfort food. Think hearty, crowd-pleasing dishes with savory, meat-like flavors (hello, Marmite!). Trust me, you’ll want to dig in.

Mamma Mia!

Or rather, Nonna Mia!

Giuseppe Federici and his nonna Marianna traveled through southern Italy to create Italian Cooking with Nonna. The book is packed with vibrant photos of Italy and its mouthwatering food (droooool). Giuseppe’s writing style is warm, inviting, and approachable—you’ll feel like you’ve been welcomed into an Italian family’s home. The recipes? Everything you’d expect from finger-lickingly good Italian home cooking—but veganized.

Greek Cypriot Goodness

Drawing from her Greek Cypriot roots, Christina Soteriou brings vibrant dishes to life in Big Veg Energy. As a restaurant-trained chef, you can trust that her creations are not only high-quality but also nourishing and delicious. And yes—she loves to keep things secretly healthy. Over at The Happy Foodie, you can find three recipes from her cookbook that have caught my eye—most notably, the Spiced Roasted Squash with Pistachios.

Protein Packed

A nutrition coach, ultra-marathon runner, and personal trainer—Gigi Grassia is all that. Pheeew! Impressive! So, when she writes a cookbook, you can bet the focus is on nourishing the body with plenty of protein. And since she’s Italian, it’s no surprise that the recipes in Plant Protein must also be absolutely delicious.

Recipes to Reach Your Fitness Goals

This is another cookbook to kickstart your year if health and fitness are your goals. Sophie Waplington is a personal trainer and understands the vital role of protein and fiber in your diet. That’s why her dishes are rich in both in her debut cookbook, Soph's Plant Kitchen. Since she’s based in London and Lisbon, I assume many of her recipes will draw inspiration from English and Portuguese cuisines.

So many books! And it is a selection! I just wonder If you would do every recipe (once in a day) hypothetical, how much would it take to make them all? A few years for sure.
I hope you consider to write your own book. Because is almost the end of the year, a good question could be for everybody: Well, did i eat good this year? Tasty and healthy? For me is yes and a part of new things are thanks to you. So i wish you a beautiful vacation, celebrate with good flavory food and a new year with successful ideas of cooking!
P.S.Still fan of the avocado mayo.

What a lovely comment, thanks so much! Hehe, if I tried to cook one recipe a day, I’d probably need years (and a bigger kitchen!). I had to think of the movie Julie & Julia.

Really happy to hear that I could be a little part of your delicious food journey this year. That truly means the world to me. 😊

Wishing you the happiest of new years, filled with delicious food & lots of (culinary) adventures!
